Accretion onto compact objects is an important concept for understanding a variety of active phenomina in astrophysical objects. Active galactic nuclei and atellar-mass black-hole candidates are good examples. A large body of observational data have been accumulated during these decades, while various theories have been proposed so far.
From the late 1970's a group in Kyoto has been engaged in studying the basic physical processes of black-hole accretion flow. In this volume they, for the first time, summarize the new disk models developed in the 1990's in comparison with the classical ones, emphasizing the results of their own work. This book consists of five parts: general introductions, classical disk pictures, new disk models, disk oscillations and waves, and other related subjects.
